Terms and Policies

Our Privacy Policy effective 9/1/2006

Changes To This Policy Our privacy policy is subject to change from time to time. Any changes to this privacy policy will be posted on this web page, and we will mark the link to our privacy policy from our Internet home page to note the date of any changes, so that you will always know what information we collect online, how we use it, and what choices you have.

Personal contact information we collect and what we do with it

When you are making a donation, expressing an interest in referring a wish child, or requesting additional information, we ask you for personal contact information, which may include your name, mailing address, phone number, and e-mail address. We will use this contact information to provide you with information or resources you have requested, such as information about the Make-A-Wish Foundation of the Hudson Valley  (which may be referred to as “The Foundation” or “Foundation” throughout this document), a receipt, or a financial report, or we will use your information to contact you to clarify or verify other information, such as an order you placed, a donation you made, or a wish child that you have referred. We will not add your name and contact information to any mailing lists without your prior knowledge or express permission. In other words, we will always ask or inform you before adding you to a mailing list. If we do not, you will not be added. If you have agreed to be added to one of our mailing lists, such as our e-mail newsletter list or regular mailing list, then you may receive from us news about the Make-A-Wish Foundation and or the Make-A-Wish Foundation of the Hudson Valley  and information on how you can support the organization’s mission. If you make a donation and or agree to be added to our postal mailing list, we may contact you from time to time to offer you services from third parties that will directly benefit the Make-A-Wish Foundation and or the Make-A-Wish Foundation of the Hudson Valley  (for example, a Make-A-Wish Foundation affinity credit card). Personal contact information is not shared with any organization outside of the Make-A-Wish Foundation, the Make-A-Wish Foundation of the Hudson Valley and our agents (reputable companies we use for services, such as shipping Make-A-Wish Foundation products or sending Make-A-Wish Foundation of the Hudson Valley mail). We have contracts to protect your privacy with all of our agents. We reserve the right to share Personal contact information with third parties in response to a subpoena, to prevent fraud, to comply with an inquiry by a government agency or other regulator, or as necessary for other legal purposes. We follow generally accepted industry standards to protect your Personal contact information and other sensitive information. Unfortunately, no data transmission over the Internet or method of data storage can be guaranteed 100% secure. Therefore, while we strive to protect your personal information by following generally accepted industry standards, we cannot ensure or warrant the absolute security of any information you transmit to us or store at this site.

Personal billing information we collect and what we do with it

We do not, currently, process financial transactions on this web site.

Other contact information we collect and what we do with it

In some instances, we ask for contact information for people other than yourself – for example, e-mail addresses of friends to whom you wish to send a copy of one of our pages or the mailing address of someone you wish to have us notify of a donation you have made. Such contact information is not added to any mailing list nor is the information shared with any other organization. Collecting such information for our own use is called prospecting. The Make-A-Wish Foundation and the Make-A-Wish Foundation of the Hudson Valley do not prospect.

How to view or change your information

Children’s Online Policy

The Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) requires that we inform parents and legal guardians about how we collect, use, and disclose personal information from children under 13 years of age. This site is not directed at children under 13 years of age but we recognize that with proper adult supervision some parents might permit their children to visit and use our site. COPPA requires that we obtain the consent of parents and guardians in order for children under 13 years of age to use certain features of our site. If you are the parent or guardian of a child under 13, and your child would like to participate in certain services available on our site (and we have chosen to make such services available to children in this age group), your child will be prompted to print out a form for you to complete and mail in to us using the contact information provided below under “Contact Us”. The form will list the information required from both parent/guardian and child, as well as the intended uses of the information. We will only collect information that is reasonably necessary for your child to participate, and we will not share your child’s personally identifiable information with any third party (except if necessary for participation, for purposes of fulfillment by a third party who has agreed to protect the confidentiality of this information and not to use the information for direct marketing purposes), unless you specifically consent, or as permitted by COPPA or other applicable law. You may also subsequently revoke your consent and request that your child’s information be removed from our active list. Please refer to the form for instructions and further information. If you are a parent or guardian who has discovered that your child under the age of 13 has submitted his or her personally identifiable information without your permission or consent, we will remove the information from our active list, at your request. To request the removal of your child’s information, please send contact our site as provided below under “Contact Us”, and be sure to include in your message the same login information that your child submitted.
