Francisco and his family were greeted and escorted by their wish granter Abraham Almanza who showed them around Yankee Stadium and got Francisco pumped up for his day as honorary captain.
Francisco also had the opportunity to hang out on the sidelines as he waited to be introduced as "Honorary Team Captain" for the day. While he waited, he played catch with a sideline assistant and chatted with NY State Troopers stationed near home plate.
Trooper Bonney spent some time with Francisco and shared that he knew three of our very own board of directors including former Board Chair Tom Sullivan, Preston Felton (retired NY State Trooper Superintendent), and current Board Secretary, Brian Doyle.
During the pre-game festivities, the West Point Parachute Team flew-in to deliver the game ball and present it to Francisco in preparation for the big game. Francisco was then escorted by the referees to the 50-yard-line where Army would win the opening coin toss.
ARMY would go on to beat the Huskies 35-21 through relentless defensive plays including an intercepted would-be TD pass returned for 99 yards by Chris Carnegie for a Black Knights touchdown; this is the first West Point win in the Bronx since 1960. Special thanks to West Point for providing these amazing experiences for our wish kids.
Francisco's wish was granted this past summer to go to Walt Disney World.
