Referrals - How to Refer a Child

Each wish experience is unique for a child, their family and Make-A-Wish Foundation®. Since Make-A-Wish Foundation® does not actively solicit wishes, there is a general process by which a child is referred, qualified and granted a wish.

Out of respect for the children and families we serve, and out of concern for their privacy, children who may be eligible to receive a wish can be referred by one of three sources:

  1. Medical professionals treating the child, such as a physician, nurse, social worker or child-life specialist
  2. A parent or legal guardian of the prospective Wish Child
  3. The prospective Wish Child, him or herself

If you would like to refer a child for a wish, please contact Denise D'Amico, VP of Program Services, at 1-800-844-8232, ext. 102 or e-mail ddamico@hudson.wish.org. Alternatively, you may use the National Referral Form.

About Wish Referral Privacy

If you are anyone other than a parent/guardian or the potential Wish Child, we ask you to speak with the family first and obtain their permission to contact Make-A-Wish Foundation® of the Hudson Valley. We do not intrude on a family's privacy, and want them to feel comfortable with the wish process.
