Wish kid Carli serves as the honorary captain at the ARMY football game

Carli, an 18-year-old from Westchester county served as the second Make-A-Wish® honorary team captain of the season for the ARMY Black Knights as they faced-off versus Air Force. Read more...

On a day as sunny and bright as Carli's smile, the Army football team faced off against rival Air Force in front of a sold out crowd in Michie Stadium. With traditions not seen in typical rivalry games, excitement for both Army and Air Force filled the stadium as cadets from both academies cheered in the stands. Spectators also enjoyed another great Army West Point tradition, seeing Wish Kid Carli serve as the Honorary Captain.

As part of the Honorary Captain experience, Carli and her family enjoyed time on the field before the coin toss. They met Athletic Director Boo Corrigan who presented Carli with coins for excellence. Carli was then introduced on the Jumbotron!

After the introduction Carli and her guests walked along the Army sideline, stopping near the 50-yard line to meet the referees. They explained the game plan for the coin toss and that Carli would walk out with him to center field. Carli then had a few moments to meet the Mule Mascot and take some photos. With game time quickly approaching, the cheering grew louder-especially at the announcement that the wind had subsided enough for the paratroopers to jump from the helicopter and deliver the game ball. In total, six paratroopers jumped - four from Army and two from Air Force and all landed near center field before heading to the sideline for a pic. With the game ball delivered, the coin toss was next!

Carli met the Army captains and walked out to the center field with the referees. Carli said that,

"although I was nervous being in front of so many people in the stadium, being in the center of the action for the coin toss was my favorite part of the Honorary Captain experience".

After the coin toss Carli and her family found their seats located in the section next to the Army cadets. Although the Army West Point football team fell to Air Force, 31-12, Saturday afternoon at Michie Stadium, Carli witnessed another tradition when both teams sang their fight songs. Carli was happy to have been a part of the Army West Point tradition and enjoyed her time as the Honorary Captain!

Special thanks to West Point for providing these amazing enhancement experiences for our wish kids and to Volunteer Marie Lenart for escorting the family and for the great photos!

Carli's wish to go to the Atlantis to swim with dolphins was granted this past June.
